Away From the World
The much anticipated album, Away From The World, marked DMBs 2-year “break”. The question, will it match or even exceed expectations? After the release of the single “Mercy”, it was obvious that the album or maybe a handful of songs would be dedicated toward peace and inspiring people to feel good. After the release of the compilation video of “Mercy”, which featured thousands of other amateur videos, I found myself craving the new album. Then, five days before the release, there was a leak of the album, and then iTunes had it available for streaming. I listened to it and the first song “Broken Things” was a good start to a much anticipated album. As the song faded out, Trumpets burst in for “Belly Belly Good” and you can’t help but nod or do whatever car dance you have. A definite feel good song that is sure to put a smile on your face.
"Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pale of water, Jack fell down and broke his crown ‘cause he was messing with the preacher’s daughter."
"Can you feel it in your belly come on!"
Of course, Mercy is next and that song is going to be a solid addition to their already great pool of live songs. All-in-all this is a decent album, but by no means matches with the LeRoi Moore era albums like BTCS or Under the Table or even the barely post LeRoi era, Big Whiskey. However, it is nowhere near as bad as the over percussioned album Stand Up. I think we can all agree that album as a whole was awful.
Total: 52.5/70 = C —> B- (Because I can)
Yes, the album is a little more relaxed then I would have liked it but honestly I have listened to it several times straight through and enjoy it! Buy this album if you are a DMB fan, but if you aren’t a big fan, stream it for free first and decide for yourself. If you’ve never listened to DMB at all, listen to an older album (any of them except for Stand Up!) then listen to the newer stuff.
LeRoi we miss you!
